Now that baseball season is underway, many of you may wonder what it's called statistics earned run average (ERA) is calculated. You can tell that this statistic reflects a pitcher is allowed, or cattle, runs per nine innings. But did you know that this statistic is not that a fraction complex mathematics and can be calculated with a nice little trick?

The earned run average can be the best friend of a pitcher or worse nightmare. Regardless of how these statistics are actually calculated, the lower the number, the better for the pitcher. In fact, a pitcher who can finish the season with an ERA under 2, it would be very pleased, if the pitcher threw at least 50 or more tickets. A pitcher with a few appearances could have the job of effectiveness very favorable if he did not allow runs, while a pitcher who threw for 1 entry, however, allowed 10 runs, an ERA would be disastrous.

But how can we arrive at this calculation and what it has to do with complex fractions? A fraction complex you will recall, is a fraction that contains in both the numerator, denominator, or both, another fraction. This is why it is considered complex. The earned run average in baseball is calculated on the total earned runs divided by the number divided by nine innings pitched. This "double division" in the last sentence is where our complex fraction enters

Let's see this calculation with an example. Suppose Mariano Rivera of the Yankees, has launched 72 entries. Assume further that during these episodes has allowed 6 earned runs. The way to get your effectiveness is the following: split 6 for 72 divided by 9 or ERA = 6 / (72 / 9). From 72 / 9 is 8, the calculation simplifies to ERA = 6 / 8 or 0.75, not too bad earned run average. This calculation was performed on 72 / 9 first calculation, but could use the principle that the division is the same as multiplying by the reciprocal. This is a nice little trick to get the ERA.

The way is this: we want convert 6 / (72 / 9) in 6 * (9 / 72) which becomes 54/72, and this simplifies to 3 / 4, or 0.75. Therefore, to obtain the ISS quickly, take the careers and multiply by 9, and divided by the number of innings pitched. To see this, suppose Johan Santana has given up 18 earned runs in 100 innings pitched. His ERA will be 18 * 9 / 100 or 162/100 or 1.62. Now that you are aware of this unfair means to get the ERA, you can show your friends what a baseball you are real fan.
